A resident of Kingston is facing several charges after a serious assault took place late Friday evening.

According to police, on June 3, 2022 at approximately 10:25 p.m. the victim and their friend arrived by bicycle to the intersection of Division Street and Stephen Street in downtown Kingston.

The victim was about to go into a store at this location when the accused approached them and a confrontation was initiated. Although the victim did not know the accused they were called out by name by the accused who then requested confirmation that this was indeed their identity.

When the victim verbally confirmed their name the accused proceeded to pull out a BB gun, which resembled a handgun, and shot the victim in the face with a projectile.

The accused continued to fire the BB gun at the victim and then attempted to flee the scene at which time the victim gave chase and then disarmed the accused. The accused, however, then pulled out a second BB gun that also resembled a handgun. Again, the accused was disarmed by the victim at which time the accused then took out a hatchet from their backpack and began to walk threateningly toward the victim.

Police responded and located all involved parties still at the scene and, at approximately 10:32 p.m., the accused was arrested and subsequently held to attend a bail hearing.

The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the attack and attended Kingston General Hospital for treatment.

A 31-year-old local individual was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and two counts of breach of probation.
