Officer injured during collision investigation in Quinte West.

(Quinte West, ON) – 

A 27-year-old from Campbellford has been charged after an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer was injured while responding to a reported collision in Quinte West on June 22nd, 2024.

Shortly after noon on the 22nd of June officers from the Quinte West Detachment of the OPP, as well as Hastings-Quinte Paramedics and Quinte West Firefighters responded to River Drive, near Fish and Game Club Road, for a report of a vehicle that had left the roadway and subsequently rolled over, with both occupants having managed to get themselves out of the vehicle.

During the incident one of the male passengers from the vehicle became aggressive with first responders at the scene.

During their efforts to take the individual into custody, one OPP member suffered an injury that required hospital treatment.

The male passenger has been subsequently charged with:

  • Assaulting a peace officer
  • Resisting a peace officer

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on July 11, 2024.

The driver of the vehicle in question was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with making an unsafe move – lane or shoulder.
